I love having the opportunity to return to theaters and build on existing relationships. After wearing many hats in Westport Country Playhouse’s production of In the Heights a few years ago, I couldn’t wait to come back and create some of my own work.
Working on SWM was so different from some of the big book musicals that I’ve done and I loved getting to approach it in a different way. Most of my prep was centered around listening to music, watching TikTok and YouTube videos, and playing around with ridiculous movement in my living room. I came to rehearsal each day with a pocket full of ideas, but truly got to create on the actors in the room. It was collaborative and spontaneous and fun!
With a small cast and plenty of rehearsal time, we had the freedom to try many ideas and mold them into what fit our version of the show best.
