When I got the call to come on board for this staged concert of Fiddler I was both thrilled and terrified. Many people forget how iconic Jerome Robbins’ original choreography was in this show, but I knew that I had HUGE shoes to fill.
Like any project that I take on, I immersed myself in research as I approached creating new movement for this piece. We even unknowingly scheduled pre-production in a studio named after Robbins and I often hoped that his brilliance was shining down on us as I tried to create a Fiddler using my choreographic voice.
Hearing John Williams’ film orchestrations played live (for the first time!!) by the Philadelphia Orchestra while the cast performed my choreography was a moment that I will never forget. I was so proud of what we created and couldn’t have done it without my incredible associate Logan Epstein, my muse Elijah Dillehay, and my collaborators Andy Einhorn and Sarna Lapine.
